Richard J. Schell has successfully litigated matters at all levels nationwide. His practice is focused on federal and commercial litigation and on labor and employment law. Mr. Schell is admitted to practice law in several jurisdictions, including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the State of New York, and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Schell obtained his bachelor’s degree at Amherst College in 2012, double majoring in German and in History. While at Amherst, he studied abroad at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in Germany. Mr. Schell then went on to study law at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, graduating with honors in 2015.
During law school, Mr. Schell was an editor at the University of Puerto Rico Law Review. He was also research assistant to Associate Dean Hiram Meléndez-Juarbe and worked as a student law clerk for the Hon. Juan R. Torruella, of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Mr. Schell wrote various law review articles as well, including The International Push for Free Maritime Navigation: A Brief Summary of Canada’s Contested Sovereignty over the Northwest Passage, PANGEA (Feb. 5, 2015), and A Case Study On the Politics Behind Sustainable Energy Policy: Germany’s “Atom-Moratorium” and “Energiewende,” 7 U.P.R. BUS. L.J. 55 (2016). Yet even before studying law, Mr. Schell had already obtained invaluable experience in the public sector, having worked in the United States Congress for the Hon. Luis G. Fortuño and in the Puerto Rico Department of State, as an assistant to the Undersecretary of State.
Mr. Schell is a member of the American Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.
